Born in Newmarket in Q2-1898 [Newmarket 3b:622]to Robert and Susan ELEY (née STRANGWARD) of Church Lane, Newmarket.
1901 census...George [3] was at Church Lane, Newmarket with his father Robert[35], chimney sweep born Newmarket; his mother Susan [26] born Bedford and his his brothers Robert [7] and William [7 days] and sisters Alice [5] and Rose [1]. All the children were born in Newmarket. His mother died in 1907. 1911 census...George [14] was in Grosvenor Yard, Newmarket with his widower father; brother Robert (now an assistant chimney sweep); sisters Alice; Rose and Blanche [6] and brother William [5]. The new siblings were Newmarket born, but 4 children had died (one seemingly the first William). George Strangward who was killed in France in 1918 was his uncle. see here . |
The Newmarket Journal stated that George was admitted to 39th Stationary Hospital, Lille on 18th February 1919 with influenza and died on
25th February |
